Nov. 22: European Film Festival Toronto @euffto closing night gala! 🎞 My university friend Dennis left to teach English in Japan for 20 years. Oct. 31: Bert & Ernie (from Sesame Street) were excited to spot my Ernie hat at the #Halloween Gay Village street party on Church Street. I am too innocent to understand their Top and Bottom signs. Oct. 28: In the summer, I went for brunch at @harvestkitchentoronto. At the end of the meal we had a new waitress for a minute and she was really nice and funny. She said she likes the movie Breakfast At Tiffany’s. The bill said her name was Deanna. I was hoping to see her again. But when we went back for another meal, we were told she didn’t work there anymore. But I remembered she had said she also works at @wandaspieinthesky. So on our nightly walks (which were sometimes to get ice cream), Kathleen and I often walked up to Wanda’s to see if Deanna would be there. It gave our walks a little purpose. Finally one day Kathleen was on her own walk and texted me that Deanna was working. I headed over. But for some reason, I thought I should play it cool and not talk to Deanna. So I just ordered pie and maybe said a couple of words but didn’t tell her we’d met before. What was I thinking?! Sure enough, when Kathleen went back another time, she learned that Deanna had quit that job too, to focus on her degree in biochemical engineering or something. Of course she’s a genius! Anyway, on one last visit to Wanda’s, I drew this on a coffee sleeve and gave it to one of the other girls working there, to give to Deanna if she ever dropped by. And that’s the end of the story! Oct. 18: My friend Dallas from grade school is a real estate agent (or realtor? I keep googling what the difference is but I can never remember). He thinks I would make a good real estate agent and invited me to a presentation where he was recruiting people to take a course at a brokerage he was working at. I’d have to take the basic real estate agent course for a few months. And then take his course to work for a few more months to work for their company. I had to take a couple of subways and then walk deep into an industrial park. I got there late and the front doors were locked and I went around the building and found the window and knocked on it. So I made quite the entrance. The presentation made me realize that it would not be the best use of my skills to become a real estate agent. My superpower is entertaining people by making fun, interesting content. So I’d be better off making fun videos to promote real estate agents, and leaving the technical and legal stuff to them. Oct. 4: I signed up for a background talent agency. My neighbor Kathleen does background work. It sounds grueling. She’s usually at a shoot all night. Sep. 29: My neighbour Kathleen & I walked around @nuitblancheto. One of the art pieces was a big wall of burlap sacks at City Hall. We took an artsy photo of our shadows on the wall. I’m so artsy! I should apply to make art for next year’s event. Fun fact: I took photography in Grade 12, with a used Pentax K-1000 film camera. I loved setting up long exposures at night to capture streaks of headlights, or use a flash to make multiple images of me falling down a ravine into an existential abyss. Sep 22: I went to the @actratoronto Fall Members Conference #ACTRAcon for some workshops. At the end of the 2 days, there’s always a couple of hours of mingling and snacks. But nobody talks to me at these things. They seem to just talk to people they already know. So it’s a waste of time. But I learned from this. This week was the Winter Conference. I went for a workshop on the first morning but then just left and didn’t do the afternoon or the following day or the mingling. Wed, Sep 12: I went to the hospital because I felt like I was having a heart attack. 😬 This was during the months when for some reason @instagram wasn’t letting me download my Stories. So I was screen recording them so I could later post the whole thing to Facebook & YouTube for posterity. But for some reason at the time I was obsessed with getting it back out. Maybe it was a Lego piece that was integral to my niece’s Lego Resort set. I tried using a bicycle flag, a butter knife, chopsticks. The kids wanted to help, but even I couldn’t get the thing out.
