My friend Jasmine gave me a tour of the 10 floors of @shopify, but she said I couldn’t film it. So this pic is all you get. But I also discuss it in my Instagram Story vlog. Yesterday my Auntie Susie of @yourlocalart was over at my parents’ house for a double birthday dinner. My birthday is tomorrow (Nov. 12) and hers is Nov. 21. (I should come back to Ottawa for that, right?) My cake had a little Spider-Man candle on it, cuz my mom knows I’ve always loved Spidey. When I turned 19, the girls at @glendoncampus bought me an awesome poster of Spider-Man slouching sadly in the rain. But stupidly, I gave that and all my childhood Spider-Man posters to Goodwill 10 years ago. I thought I should make my condo look like a grown-up, James Bond-like condo to impress women. I thought I should declutter. I thought I should only have art on the wall that I drew myself. But I miss the posters. And I can’t find any of them for sale online. Anyway, my aunt’s cake had an Elmo candle on it. Probably just cuz that’s what was left after Spider-Man. 🎂 #Ottawa #birthday #family #SpiderMan #cake #nostalgia #regret I am a: #entrepreneur #influencer #minimalist #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

Yesterday my sister @dianarachlis took me to the @ottawa_ymca with her guest pass and we both worked out. She has Parkinson’s (and is Celiac, so can’t eat gluten) and she goes to the gym around 6am every morning. She knows that exercising and eating healthy will keep her at her best, and so she does it! No excuses! I made a Facebook Page and YouTube Channel for her, where she shares her daily health tips. And I’ll soon edit and post a video I shot yesterday of her showing me her workout routine! Also, she said I look like I’ve lost weight, but she’s wondering how to tell someone that without implying they were fat before. But I know I was (and am) fat, so I’m fine to hear that I’m getting less fat. 🤣 💪🏻 #Parkinsons #fitness #nutrition #health #Ottawa #celiac #gym I am a: #influencer #entrepreneur #minimalist #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

For weeks I’ve been seeing celebrity fitness trainer @clarkbartram’s video ads on YouTube, talking about how older guys like me can lose fat. Yesterday I cooked his testosterone-boosting chili recipe on Facebook Live, to show you how easy it is. And at the end, a special surprise guest Skyped in: Clark Bartram!! Last night in bed, I registered for Music Studio Hours at the @apple store, so I could come ask if I can use 2 XLR mics at once in GarageBand, for recording my podcast. On the phone with Apple this weekend, I was told it was impossible. But Christopher at the store was able to show me how, so now I’m good to go and Chris can’t wait to hear “Celebrity Josh”! I’ll get last week’s podcast up soon, where my guest and I huddled around one mic. And then I’ll need my second guest. Who wants to come over? You’ll get your own mic! (I mean, for the show. I recorded my first podcast today! My guest was Brent Jensen, host of the podcast No Sleep Til Sudbury - @nosleeptilsudbury19. Listen to his show at nosleeptilsudury.org - He interviews big rock stars - like members of @defleppard and @twistedsisterofficial - about their favorite songs. He came to my condo and we chatted in my home studio (formerly my guest bedroom). So basically I’m now the Canadian Mark Maron, who interviews big stars - from @amyschumer to @barackobama - in his garage. I didn’t broadcast the recording on Facebook Live, because I wasn’t able to figure out how to use a second microphone on my computer and so the whole thing was more of a panicky learning process and I didn’t have time to add another element to the mix. But I had a good chat with Brent and hopefully he’ll come back again soon. And hopefully I can figure out how to get this thing on iTunes so you can hear it! Oh, and thanks to brainstorming with Brent, I think I’ll call the show Celebrity Josh with Josh Rachlis. 🎙🎙💻 #Toronto #podcast #rockstar #rocknroll #rockmusic #music #musician #radioshow I am a: #influencer #entrepreneur #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

My totally kosher, knish-depth knish-terview with Lori Gabay Jioia, of the Gabila's Knishes family! Watch the full 2 minutes at http://youtube.com/joshrachlis and http://ift.tt/2fCIaz6 🍴 I do copywriting for Napkin Marketing Inc., and Gabila’s is a new client. On Thursday. Lori and her husband came up to Toronto from NYC for their first official knish shoot, to make videos for their website launch. Before Lori escaped at the end of the shoot, I pressed Record and Napkin’s Adina Zaiontz filmed me getting the juicy, deep-fried gossip on America’s favorite knishes. What did I learn? You’ll have to watch, because I don’t knish and tell! 🍴 Next step is for me to convince Gabila’s to get on Instagram and Twitter so I can tag them. But in the meantime, Like them on Facebook. 😋 Want a shirt with the hashtag #KnishThis? Ask me! The model Casandra Bella wore a shirt they just made rough somewhere. Maybe we’ll get @artiktoronto Toronto to print shirts more professionally. And as always, if you print something at Artik, mention Celebrity Josh or Josh Rachlis for a sweet discount! 👚 And if you want me to interview you to promote your business, let me know! 🎤 #Toronto #knish #kosher #vegetarian #NewYorkCity #Jewish #Israel #food #cooking #chef #foodie #entrepreneur I am: #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #podcaster #digitalnomad

On Friday, I was upset with myself for being an hour late to the 9am panel at @hotdocsfest #HotDocsPodFest for which @sapnakmalhotra got me a free ticket. But let’s be real. I’ve already taken @jpddavidson’s podcasting course at @averyswartz’s @camptechco a year or two ago. And I had a few appearances on @cbcradio’s GO show, which @nanaabaduncan worked on. So I just need to start my show. I talked to Nana after the panel and she said I’ve got the skills. And when I told her I’ve turned my second bedroom into a studio, she said I just need to start doing this. She said she’ll be a guest on the show. And so did panel member Suzanne Hancock, host of @podcastsundaynightdinner. I’ll bet I could wrangle @sebbymajor and Avery sometime too. So let’s do this! And by let’s, I guess I mean me. At Thursday’s shoot for Gabila’s Knishes with @napkinmarketing, for whom I do copywriting, the model @casandrabella did a knish-tastic job of eating knishes. I noticed on her Instagram bio it says she’s a comedian. She told me she wants to try stand-up. I said we should make a pact to go do an amateur night at the same time. I think she kind of smiled and nodded. So I guess it’s happening? I should write some knish jokes. Oh, and she’s wearing a shirt with the hashtag #KnishThis. They just made that rough somewhere. How do I add excitement to my life? By switching up my canned mushrooms! 🍄 In this clip from yesterday’s Instagram Story, I was at @nofrills_ca, buying ingredients to make fitness expert @clarkbartram’s recipe for Testosterone-Boosting Chili for Older Men. Normally I buy the Sliced Mushrooms. But this time I went with Pieces & Stems, because it will add unpredictability to each spoonful. Yes, this is how sad my life is. Oh, and Instagram Stories now have the sound misaligned when I download them. So I had to import yesterday’s Instagram Story into iMovie and shift the audio in a few places. And then I had to re-record the very ending of this clip because there was no sound. So I’m putting a lot of time and effort into something as meaningless as this. I’m glad I have my Pieces & Stems to console me. Last weekend I was looking through tweets about @bufferfestival and followed @marydoodles, who makes @youtube videos of her drawing. Right up my alley, right? Cuz I draw celebrities and show them the cartoons when I interview them. I was delighted to see that Mary followed me back! She has over 18,000 followers and only follows 750 people. I’m number 751! So it was extra cool to watch her speak in person at Creator Day at @fairmontroyalyork. She talked about the importance of listening to your viewers. People kept asking her to do cartoons based on a random squiggle, and she thought that was just amateurish, but then she tried it and it became for most popular type of video and she loves it now and she’s even doing an art gallery show about it. So it’s important to just try new things and see what happens! Hopefully I’ll get to make a doodle video with Mary one day. (Hmmm... My 5-year-old niece and 3-year-old nephew and I investigate a bruise on a leaf and an empty snail shell. 🐌 I hadn’t seen my niece Ayla and nephew Eilan for 3 months. So on Saturday, I made the trip to Brampton. Immediately we got back into our routine of playing in the backyard. Ayla found a fly, a fossil and a snail shell. She is not grossed out by bugs. She loves to pick them up and play with them. She’s a fun combination of a girl who loves to dress like a princess and wears a tutu, and a girl who plays hockey and picks up flies. 🐜 #science #nature #entomology #fossil #museum #kids #children #Toronto #Brampton #mommyblog I am: #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

My niece finds a fossil in tree bark and wants to know what “creature” made that shape! 😱I hadn’t seen my niece Ayla and nephew Eilan for 3 months. So on Saturday, I made the trip to Brampton. On Saturday, after I got off the @gotransitofficial bus to Brampton to visit my sister and her kids, I was hungry because I’m low on groceries and all I ate that day was two eggs. I figured I should get some food so I didn’t show up starving. I ordered a jerk wrap. But then the guy came out and said they are out of the jerk and would I accept chicken roti instead. I said that was fine. I don’t even know what jerk was anyways. And I checked the menu and the jerk is $7.99 and the chicken roti is $9.99 and I already paid. So basically I got two dollars of free food. But when I got to my sister’s she asked why I bought food because we were about to have dinner and I wound up running around with the kids in the backyard without eating my wrap and then I just ate my wrap while we all ate Greek delivery. So I guess I didn’t really win after all. Anyway, Spicy Island Jerk doesn’t even show up as a location on Instagram. It must be nice to be so off the grid. That’s the laidback Jamaican mentality. I should try that. Bye-bye forever, social media! 🇯🇲 #Jamaica #food #restaurant #Brampton #Toronto I am: #entrepreneur #influencer #minimalist #environmentalist #Jewish #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

On Thursday, I went to a meeting about Solar Share solar bonds. To be honest, I don’t have any money right now to invest. But there was going to be free pizza and wine. But I didn’t want to be greedy. So I just took one slice if pizza and a little sip of wine. And then I had to pee. And then I got lost in the underground tunnels in the basement looking for the washroom. But I love old buildings. Brick walls and secret little rooms are so cool. I’m so glad the government has decided to change the tax rules so that 401 Richmond St. W. can remain a hub for small creative businesses and art galleries. So I did enjoy wandering around. And when I got back to the meeting, all the pizza was gone. Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh right. Investing in solar bonds is a way to get a good financial return while helping the environment. So do it! ☀️ #Toronto #solarpower #environment #greenpower #oldbuilding #heritagebuilding #freestuff I am a: #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad #influencer #entrepreneur #minimalist

Thursday, September 28: @kendallbitesback replied to my Instagram Story saying she, too, keeps moving her blankets from her bed to the laundry hamper and then back to her bed when it’s time to go back to sleep. So I’m glad I’m not alone. And maybe I should indeed mention it if - I mean when - I try doing stand-up comedy this week. Sunday, Sept. 17: Ran into Russ from Red Carpet News TV! 🎤 I attended the final @tiff_net party - A gathering after the awards ceremony on the roof. I didn’t know if I’d be able to get in. I didn’t know if I know anybody there. But I only had to take the elevator 5 floors down from my apartment, so it wasn’t a huge risk. I had some delicious hors d’oeuvres. And I ran into Russell Nelson, who runs Red Carpet News TV in England. As you’ll remember from my TIFF vlogs last year, I met him on a red carpet last year and had some good chats. I love how cool, calm and collected he is on the red carpets, treating it like a business and knowing that if he doesn’t get a good interview this time he’ll get one at another festival. (He asks the talent questions and films their answers and doesn’t get himself in the footage at all. So basically he’s the opposite of me. I’m neurotic and I like to be on camera.) I also like that now I see him every year. It makes me feel like I fit in as a media person at TIFF. And thinking about how he travels around to different red carpets, it makes me think that maybe I should branch out from Toronto and fly to other festivals. But I’ll need to figure out how to get sponsored for that so I can afford it. Anyone want to sponsor me to fly to a film festival to Josh around with the stars? ⭐️ #TIFF17 #England #Toronto #redcarpet #celebrity I am a: #influencer #entrepreneur #minimalist #feminist #celebrityinterviewer #journalist #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

But I only had to take the elevator 5 floors down from my apartment, so it wasn’t a huge risk. I had some delicious hors d’oeuvres. I didn’t know who was in the background at the time but I could tell they were Quebeckers. And I remembered last year at the same party the Quebeckers were the most enthusiastic celebrators. Some Googling tells me that behind me, posing proudly, that’s Alex Trahan, star of Marc-Antoine Lemire’s Pre-Drink, winner of the IWC Short Cuts Award for Best Canadian Short Film. Synopsis: “Alexe, a trans woman, and Carl, her gay best friend, disrupt the boundaries of their friendship when they decide to have sex for the first time - and raw emotional truths collide with illusions of breezy detachment at a time of transition.” ⭐️ #TIFF17 #Quebec #trans #LGBT #gay #Cdnfilm #Montreal #Toronto #redcarpet #celebrity I am a: #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad

I went for a walk with my old art director @george_art_longley and spotted abandoned shoes. We’d been talking about how to get big on Instagram, so he suggested taking a pic. But I like to let you hear my thoughts, so I made this video about the mysterious shoes. Later, George said I should have said something like, “Maybe these were Jim Carrey’s shoes!” So that I could add a #JimCarrey and get more views. So I guess from now on I’ll have to find a celebrity angle my rants. 👞 #Toronto #vlog #rant #shoes #funny #comedy #fashion I am: #influencer #entrepreneur #celebrityinterviewer #entertainmentreporter #radiohost #tvhost #comedian #actor #voiceactor #singersongwriter #cartoonist #screenwriter #filmcritic #travelblogger #lifestyleblogger #foodblogger #entertainmentblogger #fashionblogger #mommyblogger #YouTuber #podcaster #digitalnomad
