At my parents’ place on the weekend, I noticed this massive book “Coaching Days Of England” on the coffee table in front of the couch I was sleeping on. My mom says a lady begged her to take it off their hands. (Mom texted me right now, after she saw I posted saying it was at the library: “Actually the big book was from Friends of the Library, a volunteer group that raises funds to support the library, by selling used donated books. They have a shop beside Centrepointe library and within smaller libraries.”) So it’s now on the coffee table. My mom says it would be funny if I took the book around and was reading it on the subway and stuff. I’m thinking of actually doing that. For some reason the book just makes me laugh. I couldn’t find a date in it, but it seems pretty old. It’s very heavy. So I might need someone to come with me to help me carry it. And he’d like me to make videos for him. After this quick selfie video, we talked for another hour about entrepreneurship. Right after posting the previous series, I realized I should have brightened the close-up of the cartoon. But they were already too many likes and comments for me to delete the post and repost it. So I’m posting this picture as an additional post. 📝 Yesterday was my neighbour Kathleen’s birthday. I drew her this cartoon! 📝 She and her daughter Jess got their nails done at @sekaibeautybar. I met them there. Then we walked to @starbuckscanada, where Kathleen bought a birthday cake pop and got her free birthday drink - The barista listed options that aren’t in the menu, and the girls chose a Vente Java Chip Frapp. While they lined up for that, I drew this. Kathleen has been asking me to draw her a cartoon for months. Normally I’m too afraid to draw art for a friend, because I want it to be perfect and it never will be. For example, I never finished the card I was drawing for my friend Joel’s Bar Mitzvah when I was 12. I wanted to fill a whole giant Bristol board and it wasn’t completely covered so I never gave it to him. It’s still a running family joke. My mom is always asking me if I’ve finished Joel’s Bar Mitzvah card. But I’ve finally learned that done is better than perfect, and so I drew it on the spot, with references to what was happening at the moment, so it would be topical and have extra meaning. March 31: Hide & seek with my niece & nephew! 😂 I went to Brampton so I could get a couple of videos in full-resolution from my sister, of her kids watching Toronto Maple Leafs games, so I could submit them to a casting call for a commercial about the Leafs. While there, I played hide and seek with my nephew, and then I tidied and organized his room. And then when my niece came back from skating, she excitedly ran in to see me, and then we all played hide and seek. I saw the suitcase moving a bit while she was still getting into the hiding spot. But I didn’t want to spoil the fun too quickly. So I pretended I thought that her hand belonged to a doll that follows voice commands. March 29: My basement apartment from 17 years ago! 🏡 After interviewing the accountant at a @starbuckscanada and then getting briefed on a copywriting project at a photo studio, I decided to walk home because it was so nice out. 3.3 km into the walk, I was in The Annex and took a detour to look at the basement apartment I moved out of 17 years ago. I left that apartment to rent a studio unit in a condo building for 4 years, then a 1-bedroom in that condo for 4 years, then I bought the 2-bedroom condo that I’ve been living in for 9 years. One of my old creative directors, Israel, is running his own company now and wanted to brief me on doing some copywriting for his new cannabis client, while he was doing a photo shoot for the client. A woman named Nikki is producing for Israel. Nikki was quoted in a @cbcnews article this week about how the ad industry pushes out “old” people in their 30s and 40s. This is another reason I’m excited to work for myself. And then another rider who used to work with, Stephen, showed up and he said he’d seen on Facebook that I was going to be traveling the world. So everyone is aware of my plans to sell my condo and be a digital nomad.
