For Tuesday’s @dashingdate “Secret Santa” speed dating, I had to buy a $5 gift. I went to Shoppers and selected Godiva chocolates. But just before that, I drew this card. On the inside, I wrote “At least your awesomeness isn’t a secret! Luv, Josh Rachlis”. Maybe the card was a bit much, seeing as I didn’t know who was getting it. Turns out we picked names out of a hat at the event. “I’m in Ottawa! Are you?” I was going to just make that my Facebook status, but tonight for dinner my mom served a creative salad, a creative stuffed pepper, and adorable handmade mini cupcakes. And then she asked me to take photos of a couple of her paintings tomorrow so she can print them as holiday cards. This must all be unleashing my inner creative genes, because I decided I should be doing a daily doodle. Even if it’s just a rough sketch on a scrap piece of paper, I’d like to draw something daily to bring joy to your life and encourage your own creativity. I started to write and draw the adventure that got me here. And I soon realized it was taking too long. my dad was doing a crossword puzzle beside me and said I didn’t have to finish this thing. But I was committed and finished. But I think I’ll have to scale down to a single image for future doodles. But this was a good learning experience. It’s important to just experiment and try things and get your creativity out there. Anyway, the point of my post was going to be that I got to Ottawa today with the rideshare and I’m here probably until Monday night. Because it’s my birthday on Monday. We’re going to do a family dinner tomorrow (Sunday). So if anyone is around and wants to meet up, let me know! The #TorontoElection is tomorrow, and I’m running for Mayor! Vote Josh Rachlis! Fri, Sep 14: I went to @city_tv for them to film me talking about my mayoral platform. We could talk for a maximum of two minutes and they were very impressed that I was dead on. I brought a pad of paper and markers and said I wanted to draw cartoons while I talk to. They had wanted me to hold handheld mic, and wouldn’t let my neighbor Kathleen hold it for me. But the producer was able to get a lav mic to stick on my shirt. I was sweaty from walking over, so I had to zip up my hoodie to cover up the sweat. I’m all class. But I hope people liked my video. Thursday, Sept 6: With a giant @lgcanada football! Background story: The guy who does PR for LG found me on Instagram and emailed me an invite to the launch of #LGFantasyFootball at @realsportstoronto. So now I’m a real digital influencer - Dream come true! It was the first night of @tiff_net and I haven’t watched football since I was in a football pool in high school. But @etcanada’s @rick_campanelli was hosting and former @nfl linebacker Takeo was a guest - So this was the place to be. Also, I rarely get invited anywhere. So I walked over and brought my neighbor Kathleen to film any interviews. Turns out people were just eating and having fun. So I didn’t interview anyone. I finally decided to interview the one guy I was talking to, @svegvari. The room had been fairly quiet, but the second I started interviewing him, the music started blasting. Typical of my life. But I had fun chatting with Steve, who has a nerd podcast, and I love nerd stuff, so I’ll bring him over for a show soon. He lives on King St West, and I told him there’s a little grocery store near there and I always laugh at their sign that looks like a movie theater sign but it says things like Grapes $.99. And he said he totally knows that sign and laughs too. So we bonded. Fri. Aug 31: I met up with Israel Diaz for one of our occasional chats. He’s a top Creative Director who has run lots of ad agencies, and now he’s working for himself, building a new company. I’ve been doing some copywriting for his company’s website, and we also meet to talk about how to make money with affiliate marketing. And we’ve been saying we should do a podcast together. The last time we met, I said we should’ve recorded our conversation - That could have been our podcast. So for this meeting, I brought my mic. We met at @sohohousetoronto, his fav hangout. And we decided to find a place outside where we could chat. We found chairs in the new seating area on King Street. I said the interview was going to be me asking him why he’s working for himself when he could run any ad agency he wants. But we covered lots of random fun topics. I wanted to post it as my first podcast before @tiff_net, so that my podcast was started and I could interview celebs at the film festival, Sep 6-16.
